Chennai: The 262-km-long proposed greenfield road connecting Chennai with Bengaluru is expected to be completed in three years. The National Highways Authority of India is implementing the project.

Over 85 per cent of the land acquisition process had been completed in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. 60 per cent the land acquisition process was over in Tamil Nadu. The proposed road will require nearly 2,300 hectares of land.

The lands for the project would be made available in March, it is expected. Environmental and forest clearances were expected shortly.

A separate Project Implementation Unit (PIU) had been created. It would be headed by an officer in the rank of a Project Director. The six-lane project would be implemented in a phased manner. The road would have four overbridges across level crossings.

The original alignment of the road has been changed as it passes through reserved forest areas in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and 7 km in the Royal Elephant reserve in Andhra Pradesh.

The expressway is expexcted to reduce congestion in areas like Sriperumbudur and Ranipet.
